To all interested joining the conversation on European health workforce with emphasis on nursing in all specialisation and advanced levels.
Europe’s health sector faces significant challenges, from an aging population and chronic diseases to rapid medical advancements and the climate crisis. Economic constraints and the demand for sustainable solutions add complexity, placing immense pressure on healthcare systems and the nursing workforce. Skills improvement alone is insufficient, as it lacks sustainability.
The COVID-19 pandemic exposed vulnerabilities in both the quantity and quality of nursing staff, revealing a need for systemic change—a challenge that remains a European and global shock. Yet many institutions persist with outdated paradigms, missing opportunities for transformative solutions. A collective shift to a "new DNA" for the healthcare workforce is essential—one that fosters collaboration and innovation for a sustainable future. Are we ready to harness our potential and use the right tools and mechanisms?
Persistent inflation and financial strain exacerbate workforce shortages and operational difficulties. Tackling these intertwined issues demands a unified strategy that addresses economic realities, workforce dynamics, and the evolving role of nurses. Specialist nurses are vital—not only as care providers but also as leaders in public health, policy advocacy, and health system resilience.
This event examines the political and policy dimensions of specialist nurses' critical roles in overcoming these challenges. We’ll explore their contributions to patient outcomes, health system efficiency, and sustainable solutions amid political, economic, and regulatory pressures.
